I was changing Jack on the changing table in his room. I rarely do it because the dining room table, which was changed into a changing table in February, is much easier to work on. I put on his pants and picked him up to pull them up all the way. I went to sit him down so that I could get a shirt over his head and he decided that he didn't want to sit back down. So instead, just before his butt hits the changing pad, he throws his head back and arches his back to get out of my grip. It worked. Since I wasn't expecting such a maneuver, he fell out of my grasp and whacked the back of his head on the corner (thank God it was rounded and wasn't the sharp part.) My heart leapt out of my chest as he howled. I picked him up immediately and he was crying so hard he was almost hyperventilating. The whack was hard enough to make me sad, but the heaving sobs put Mommy over the edge. I sat down in the chair and rocked him and started crying right along with him. It proved to be a good idea. He stopped crying and looked at me, confused.
He seemed fine but that didn't stop me from immediately going online and researching head trauma. After I determined that he didn't have any of the signs on any of the websites I found, I started to calm down a bit. God, what am I going to do when he breaks a bone, when he has an accident, when some stupid girl breaks his heart someday? I'm in trouble!
